Studio Policies
Student Requirements
- Learning an instrument is a time commitment. By taking lessons students are committing to putting in the time and effort, both in and out of lessons, necessary to succeed.
- Students are expected to practice daily. The time necessary each day varies according to age and skill level. The student that puts in more time will advance more quickly.
- The student is expected to bring all materials to each lesson. Without music, there is little to work on in lessons. I reserve the right to end lessons early in the case the student comes to a lesson without materials.
Materials
- For piano lesosns, students are expected to have a tuned piano at home. An electric keyboard is acceptable if it is full-size (88-keys) and has weighted keys.
- For violin lessons, students are expected to have access to a violin every day for practice and every lesson.
- I will provide books and music required for lessons. The student/guardian is responsible for reimbursing the cost of all lesson materials. I will communicate clearly the materials and cost required.
Cancellations
- School-closings due to weather will often indicate cancellation of lessons. I will communicate with the parent/guardian in these cases.
- If the student must miss a lesson due to vacation or other known conflicts, 24-hour notice is required.
- If the student must miss a lesson due to illness or other last-minute reasons, early communication is extremely helpful
Make-up Lessons
- Cancellations due to weather will not be made up.
- No-show lessons will not be made up.
- If I cancel a lesson, it will be made up at no additional cost. In the case scheduling prevents a makeup lesson, a credit for the lesson will be given ($25 per 30-minute lesson; $45 per hour lesson).
- If the student misses a lesson and 24-hour notice is given, I will (as my schedule allows) provide one make-up lesson per semester. Make-up lessons in these cases are not guaranteed.
Hygiene
- Students are expected to wash hands with soap and water before all lessons and practice sessions.
- Nails should be kept short as to not hinder technic.
Outside Lessons
- Students taking lessons from another instructor for the same instrument in addition to private lessons with me will not be accepted into the studio.
Summer
- Students may continue lessons in the summer (June, July, August). They may also choose to take part or all of the summer off.
- Lessons during the summer may be paid on a week-by-week basis to account for vacations.
Termination of Lessons
- Students must provide 30-day notice before terminating lessons. The parent/guardian is responsible for the monthly payment within the 30-day period. This does not apply to breaks and vacations during summer months (June, July, August).
- I reserve the right to terminate lessons at any time due to noncompliance with studio policies. The same 30-day notice will be given in those cases.
