About

Hi! My name is Sarah Heinen. I am currently studying Instrumental Music Education at Oklahoma City University. I am studying piano under the direction of Dr. Sergio Monteiro and violin under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Hatt. Throughout my time at OCU, I have performed in both small and major ensembles, including both piano and violin in the Symphony Orchestra. I am involved in OCU's collegiate chapter of NAfME (National Association for Music Education). I also have experience accompanying instrumentalists, cantors, and choirs.
I have been teaching private music lessons since the summer of 2021. I have experience teaching both in-person and remote lessons. I currently hold a private studio, as well as teach through the Saint Paul's Fine Arts Academy.
Besides piano and violin, I also have experience with several other instruments, including organ and cello. Some of my other skills/hobbies include Computer Science and Martial Arts. I've taken four semesters of computer science classes as well as completed a Data Science internship through Better Therapeutics. As for martial arts, I have trained in several forms, including Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I received my 2nd-Dan black belt in 2022 from Grandmaster Sam Perez at Denison Family Karate.
Some of the awards I've received include Dean's List Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. I've also won Summa Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam. In highschool I won first place in the Denison Performing Arts Piano Competition.
